University Children's Clinic

Founded in 1924, immediately after the formation of the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade, the University Children’s Clinic was an independent health institution for which a new purpose-built building was erected between 1936 and 1940 according to a project by Milan Zloković.

During the thirties of the 20th century, due to the development of modern tourism and strengthening of tourist activities in Yugoslavia, the focus of tourist construction was on private initiative, i.e, on private investors who invested in the construction of accommodation and catering facilities (hotels, boarding houses, and villas) contributed to the improvement and modernization of the tourist offer.

With the design of the primary school in Jagodina, Zloković established himself as a leading modernist in Serbian interwar architecture, whose works represent the refined achievements of a unique proceeding, in which a coherent and rational attitude towards architecture in all its humanistic and technical aspects is manifested.

In Zloković’s architectural work, his significant contribution to the design development of the typology of health facilities in Serbian modern architecture stands out, both in the interwar and postwar period, through several significant realizations and conceptual solutions.

The automotive industry of the first half of the 20th century was accompanied by a strong modernization process based on new technological and economic possibilities. In such an environment, modern architecture favored the presentation of modern achievements (products of the new industry), just as new car models were an appropriate attribute for a complete presentation of modern architectural achievements (house – machine).

After the invitation of the local government of Prizren (Kosovo) in 1959. to design a new building of the Teacher’s School, Zloković proposed that the school is to be designed as prefabricated with consistent application of modular coordination, showing the investor that the new building will certainly be more rational than traditional construction, without hampering functional organization.

By creating better material conditions for market-oriented tourism, in the early 1960s in the tourist areas of Yugoslavia, several significant realizations of tourist facilities were created, which gave impetus to future mass tourist construction, including the complex of a new tourist settlement in Ulcinj (Montenegro), designed by Zloković in collaboration with the architect’s son Đorđe Zloković and daughter Milica Mojović.
